Mithuna

Fragments shattered on the rock realign, converge; particles swarming to reconfigure ancient lovers longing to escape Ellora's caves. A ritualized hiatus realized in deep relief, suspension in gaining, having, yearning.

A young couple kiss, each pulling their cell phones from their open mouths, and snap self portraits with their erotic backdrop. They return from whence they came, unchanged lovers.

They should have been changed.

I like this one. Big things move under the surface.

The "unchanged lovers" part certainly grabs and deserves more attention. You've placed intrigue in the excavation of ancient lovers juxtaposed with a snapshot of the now.

Amazing Joseph Campbell quote. Thank you!

I like the juxtaposition of the ancient and modern lovers, times, et.al. Very impresive poem. Beautiful use of language.

K. Gilbert above beat me to the thoughts. I echo hers. That's what hit me strongest from your chosen image to the excellent poem you wove- great word choices and, of course, the imagery is gloriously sharp.
I also thought it's creative that you put a bit of prose in between the verses.

Ditto to K.'s observation. The word choice here is so pleasantly intoxicating to my mind's ear. ;) Such an interesting theme for a haibun; I like it a lot -- the brimming passion here. Cheers. Have a blessed new year, dear.
